Reading speed and your place
Open a book under More → Library. Focus reading keeps the word you reached, and Test reading speed measures the passage on the page.
Test reading speed
- The passage comes from the page body. Running headers, page numbers, and footnotes stay outside the test.
- A yellow highlight covers the lines from the green start word to the orange end word.
- A short page continues across the following pages, up to four, until the test has enough words.
- The timer keeps counting while you scroll.
- A finish under five seconds, or faster than 800 words per minute, returns you to the preview so you can read the passage again.
- Use this speed saves your place on the last word of that passage.
Your place
- Pause, leave the book, or turn the assistant off. The cursor stays on the last word you reached.
- Long-press a passage and choose Start speed reading here.
- Start here, From selection, and Go to cursor follow that word.
Still with us
- Continue reading resumes playback. Take a break saves the session.
- The check waits three minutes without a tap, a selection, or a scroll.
- Turn it off in Focus settings: Still with us check.
